To Understand the inherent rhetorical situation of writing including purpose, audience, and context.

In my opinion, reading responses really helped to improve my understanding of rhetorical situations since we had to discuss this in each one.
The ethnography essay was a great way to prepare for researching groups of people for Hospitality and Tourism Management later on in my college career. I think all the essays apply to this one, due to the diversity in situations they could be applied. The academic discourse essay covered a different area then our reading responses, and the audio essay covered an even different area than the first two. This semester has really helped me to gain writing skills in different elements. I believe the academic discourse essay relates to this goal due to its composition. In order to write this essay the right way, you have to discover new things and learn about an academic community. Research is required in order to gain knowledge about a new community, and then you evaluate on what seems important enough to include in the essay. I think both the audio essay and the final project met this goal, due to their unconventional way of displaying the writers story. For the audio essay, we were challenged to use software we had never used before in order to create a visual story. For the final project, we were given the privilege to design our own website and adorn it with writings of our choosing from this semester. I believe the writing process for the academic discourse essay and the ethnography essay really came into play for this goal. For other papers, we had a peer review or two, but these two essays demanded more from us individually. Therefore, we relied on others to help guide our paper in the direction we wanted. The academic discourse and ethnography essays are my choice again for this goal, because they both required outside sources to be cited in order to back up claims, as well as formatted with a style that is unique to the writer. This style seemed to be informational, without being dull. I think all the essays we composed meet the last two goals, due to their demand for general correctness that established respect for the writer, as well as the different types of technologies we used in order to compose our texts. |
