This is my final draft of our Academic Discourse project. For this project we had to select an academic article written by an expert in our selected field of study and analyze it using Swale's CARS Model.
For unit two, our focus was an audio essay. I formatted mine similar to a podcast with motivational elements. I went off a personal narrative for a script, and then generalized it for an audience.
During week five of the semester, we focused on slam poetry. Naturally, we had to write a sample of our own. The topic was on a current event, which was Jason Collins coming out. He is a professional basketball player, so this was all over the news and ESPN. I felt we could have written better poems if we had gotten to choose our own topic, but we all seemed to be passionate about this topic as well and were highly educated on the situation since the media had thoroughly covered it.
For unit three, we focused on different ways discourse creates communities. I focused on my discourse community at work so this essay explains how employees at the Purdue CoRec are their own discourse community.
